Terminal 1 and Boarding Area B were originally constructed in the early 1960’s and renovated in the 1980’s. The AGS joint venture with Parsons Brinkerhoff was selected to provide Project Management Support Services, which includes the management, coordination and oversight of the associated Design-Build contract for the $477 million New Boarding Area B Reconstruction Project. New Boarding Area B will include passenger circulation space for access to the aircraft gates, twenty-four (24) gates with holding rooms for domestic and potentially some international flights, new passenger loading bridges, a baggage handling system, and concession areas.

Fully completed in 2024, T1 elevates SFO’s standard of providing a world-class, environmentally friendly travel experience and meets the award-winning standards of Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 Boarding Area E. Harvey Milk Terminal 1 became the first airport terminal in the world to achieve LEED v4 Platinum Certification. This latest certification version raises the bar for the design, construction, and operation of high-performance structures.

Boarding Area B was recognized with a 2022 Best Projects Award from Engineering News-Record, Airport/Transit category - ENR California region and a 2022 Award of Merit in the Aviation Category from the Design Build Institute of America.
