AGS has been providing geotechnical laboratory testing for over 20 years.
Our in-house laboratory has the capacity to perform tests of engineering and index properties on soil samples in accordance with ASTM standard procedures. AGS staff are familiar with all types of soil mechanics laboratory testing, ranging from index tests to more sophisticated engineering property tests. This intimate knowledge of the testing methods allows AGS staff to accurately judge the validity of test results. AGS’ laboratory is capable of performing most geotechnical testing, including: permeability, moisture/density characteristics, Atterberg limits, sieve analyses, consolidation, compressibility, porosity, shear strength [both direct shear & unconfined compression methods] and grain size analyses. Laboratory equipment is calibrated on a yearly basis.
Testing is routinely performed to ASTM standards, unless otherwise requested by the client, i.e., AGS has tailored testing to meet specific Caltrans format criteria during the performance of hundreds of materials and foundations reports, development of geotechnical/seismic design criteria for over 200 bridges, and 50 roadway projects.
AGS has a formal QA/QC program for the geotechnical laboratory. All data reduction and calculations are checked by an engineer.
