Laboratory Testing

AGS has been providing geotechnical laboratory testing for over 30 years.

Our in-house laboratory is specialized in geotechnical testing for the geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering and construction industries. We are equipped to perform geotechnical tests including:

  • Soil Classification tests
  • Moisture Density Test
  • Strength Tests

AGS technicians are familiar with all types of soil mechanics laboratory testing, ranging from index tests to more sophisticated engineering property tests. This intimate knowledge of the testing methods allows AGS staff to accurately judge the validity of test results. AGS’ laboratory is capable of performing most geotechnical testing including: moisture/density characteristics, Atterberg limits, sieve analyses, consolidation, unconfined compressive strength, sand equivalent, and compaction. A formal QA/QC program ensures all data reduction and calculations are checked by a licensed engineer.

We are committed to providing the most accurate test results to our clients. Our years of experience in geotechnical engineering design and analysis enables us to achieve the highest quality results. All testing is conducted in accordance with the latest specifications of the American Society For Testing Materials (ASTM) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). AGS has tailored testing to meet specific Caltrans criteria for bridge and roadway projects.

In order to start working on a project, we need to receive a written test request from you either using our Test Request Sheet or your company request sheet. At a minimum you should provide:

  • Your company name, address, phone number and email address
  • The project name and/or number and the project manager’s name
  • A list of all samples sent to us and tests to be performed on each sample
  • Maximum Density / Moisture Content
  • Sieve Analysis
  • Atterberg Limits
  • Unconfined Compressive Strength
  • Consolidation
  • Compaction
  • Sand Equivalent
