NASA Ames Research Center is located at Moffett Field in the heart of Silicon Valley.
Client: National Aeronautics and Space Administration
Location: Moffett Field, CA
Ames was founded in 1939 as an aircraft research laboratory and in 1958 became part of NASA, specializing in research geared toward creating new knowledge and new technologies that span the spectrum of NASA interests. This contract provided on-site architectural and engineering services for the Facilities Engineering Branch of NASA Ames Research Center. The two-year base contract [1997] involved approximately 100,000 labor hours per year in facility modifications, repairs and maintenance, including construction inspection and management, and environmental compliance and remediation studies. Facilities include offices, laboratories, aircraft shops, hangars, and the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex, which provides ground-based testing for aerospace vehicles.
AGS provided on-site engineering staff, responsible for design and construction oversight of facilities modifications, environmental compliance activities, and National Environmental Policy Act [NEPA] documentation. Individual tasks performed included roadway and airfield runway improvements, site contamination characterization and remediation, remodeling of building systems, water and storm water systems, design of spill prevention systems, and construction inspection and management services for the modernization of the National Full-Scale Aerodynamic Complex. AGS also characterized soil and groundwater at several areas around underground fuel storage tanks, electrical substations, and supply storage areas.
