The project consisted of the construction of a park along the Guadalupe River in downtown San Jose, between Coleman Avenue and Highway 280.
Client: City of San Jose
Location: San Jose, CA
At the confluence with Los Gatos Creek, north of Santa Clara Avenue, the project included construction of several retaining walls, a ranger station, a pedestrian bridge, and a park on both sides of Los Gatos Creek, as well as slope protection along some of the riverbanks. AGS was the geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering consultant to Hargreaves Associates, providing the park design services to the San Jose Redevelopment Agency. The civil design included grading and drainage design for Confluence West Park, Confluence Point, and part of the river bank. The structural design included design of several soil-cement retaining and bridge wing walls and evaluation of existing retaining walls. The geotechnical engineering services included development of geotechnical conclusions and recommendations for slope stability, erosion protection, foundations for retaining structures and bridges, earthwork, and subgrade preparation.
Guadalupe River Park Contract 3 Flood Control project involved developing the General Design Memorandum and providing design services for the US Army Corps of Engineers Sacramento District for the 2.5-mile Guadalupe River Park. In addition to the major flood control improvements, regional trail and park system facilities were also incorporated into the project construction.
AGS, as part of the team that developed the General Design Memorandum, provided civil and structural design services for portions of Guadalupe River Park, including replacement of bridge wingwalls at Coleman Avenue [Contract 2], the utilities design for the 6.5-acre Confluence West and Confluence Point areas of the River Park, and geotechnical and environmental investigations for design of channel improvements such as retaining walls, flood walls, protection of existing bridges and viaducts, and gabion structures [Contract 3]. As part of its work on Contract 3, AGS reviewed available information regarding potential subsurface contamination along the project and prepared sampling and analysis and health and safety plans. AGS conducted site characterization in areas suspected of contamination.
